Biography




Mario Nandayapa Quartet, founded in 2008 by the virtuoso multi-instrumentalist Mario Nandayapa, is a vibrant and passionate expression of the musical richness of Chiapas, Mexico. Inspired by family tradition and his father's legacy, Mario Nandayapa set out to take the marimba to new heights, blending the cultural heritage of his homeland with contemporary influences.

From its inception, Mario Nandayapa has masterfully led the quartet towards musical excellence, combining exceptional technical ability with a deep emotional connection to the instrument. With bold vision and tireless dedication, he has led the quartet to unprecedented success, both nationally and internationally.

The quartet has stood out at world-renowned events, from performances at international festivals to appearances at iconic venues such as the Palacio de Bellas Artes, Teatro de la Ciudad Esperanza Iris, and the Auditorio Nacional in Mexico City. Mario Nandayapa Quartet has captivated audiences of all ages and left an indelible impression on the contemporary music scene.

2008

• Debut of the ensemble at the National Museum of the Viceroyalty in Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico; Regional Cultural Center of Cuautitlán Izcalli, State of Mexico, and the Culinary Festival of Plaza Loreto, CDMX.

2009

• Special participation with Chiapanecan marimba in the concert of La Quinta Estación at the National Auditorium.

• Special presentation to aid the victims, "Como pasa el tiempo" program hosted by Cesar Costa, CENART, CDMX. Silvestre Revueltas Hall at the National Conservatory of Music, CDMX.

2010

• Special participation in the anniversary of "Voz en Punto" at the Nezahualcóyotl Hall, CDMX. "Vive Diciembre con Cultura" Festival in Tlalnepantla de Baz, State of Mexico. Parque de la Revolución in Naucalpan, State of Mexico. Casa del Risco, CDMX.

2015

• Copley Symphony Hall in San Diego, USA. San Juan Convention Center in San Juan, Puerto Rico, and the Mexican Embassy in Belize City, Belize. Presentation on "Day of the Dead" at the Zócalo Capitalino, CDMX.

• Chiapan marimba soloist in the debut of the composition "Pasar Singapura!" by Mtro. Jeremiah Choy on the occasion of Spotlight Singapore at the Biblioteca de México, CDMX.

2016

• "Nandayapa & Wings Tour 2016" project in Mexico, playing alongside marimbists Takayoshi Yoshioka and Reiko Shiohama at the theater of the Autonomous University of Tlaxcala (UATx), Casa Rosete in San Pedro Cholula, Blas Galindo Hall of the National Arts Center (CENART), Juárez Hall of the Tlatelolco University Center in Mexico City. 1st Jaime Sabines International Festival organized by the Venustiano Carranza delegation in Mexico City.

2017

• Concert at the International Cultural Festival of Tlalmanalco, State of Mexico. Special concert at the Delegational Esplanade of Venustiano Carranza for senior citizens.

• Tour of Texas, USA. Concert at the San Antonio Arts Center. On September 16th at ESB-MACC for the 10th anniversary of the Emma S. Barrientos Mexican American Cultural Center and an educational talk-concert at the University of Texas at Austin.

• Concert at the ninth paste festival in Real del Monte, Hidalgo. Presentation of the "Desde el Mictlán" show at the Tlatelolco Cultural Center of UNAM and the XV souls festival in Valle de Brazo, State of Mexico.
